Ways to help quit smoking:

  • Hide your matches or cigarettes
  • Make your home a non-smoking place
  • Ask people who smoke to please not smoke around you because of second hand smoke
  • Drink less pop, and alcohol because it can make you want to smoke, and is harmful to your baby
  • If you smoke to relieve stress, find something to take it's place
  • Keep gum or tic-tacs on hand, in case you get the urge to smoke
  • Do activites to get your mind off of smoking
  • Join a support group
  • Don't go to bars, or anywhere where you know people will be smoking

Smoking increases the risk of having an underweight baby. Underweight babies have an increased chance of getting a disease or serious health problem. Smoking during pregnancy has been shown to slow the fetal growth. The baby can also develop heart defects such as congenital heart defects. The more a woman smokes during her pregnancy, the more she is putting her baby at risk.Smoking during pregnancy causes less oxygen to be delivered to the baby which can affect the growth and develpment of the baby during pregnancy.

It is very dangerous to somke while you are pregnant becuase ciggerets have more than 4,000 chemiclas in them such as cyanide, lead, and 60 cancer causing compounds. All of those chemicals get into your blood streem then go right to the baby as its only source of nutrition.
